Training of Social Empowerment Facilitators (T-SEF)



In the past few months, COVID-19 and its subsequent impact was largely seen. Many changes happened overtime and the world got introduced to “virtual reality”. Though this was termed as the new normal for many, but the mantra towards empowering the deprived communities’ remained the same, i.e.; Effective Facilitation. The role of facilitators, evolved to new heights particularly in enabling grass root leadership even during the crisis by directly engaging, creating awareness and providing support.

However, the art of facilitation requires certain skills and capabilities. Only an effective facilitator with the relevant expertise can succeed to bring a change. Training for Social Empowerment Facilitators (T-SEF) therefore, is being organized in its most comprehensive manner, assisting the facilitators of change to enable the poor, marginalized and the vulnerable groups towards a more aware, inclusive and empowered life.

Expected Outcome


By the end of the training the participants will have learnt and internalized-

  • Concept and meaning of Social change and empowerment for the facilitator of change process.

  • Analyzing training needs and set learning objectives

  • Understanding about the relevance of collectivization process for empowerment.

  • Understanding appropriate participatory training methods, tools, techniques etc. For strengthening various community collectives.

  • Designing effective participatory training and its various steps for empowering social collectives.

  • Facilitating participatory training sessions for enhancing competencies of facilitators.

  • Apply practical techniques for presentation and facilitation for facilitators.

  • Understanding different roles facilitator has to play during participatory training for the collectives.

  • Importance of self and personality development of a facilitator.

  • Skills required for conducting a participatory training sessions for the facilitators.

  • Practical learning of conducting participatory training for the community collectives.

  • Understanding on evaluation of training through participatory methodology

  • In order to achieve the above outcomes the following contents shall be dealt with during the training program:

Philosophy and Principles of Participatory training and its role in social empowerment process.

How to analyse training needs before planning a training intervention of a social collective.

How to design a participatory training for the member of community based collective.

Principles of various methods of participatory learning: Lecture/SGD/Role play/Case study/Simulation/Game etc.

Understanding small group’s behaviour in Participatory training for behaviour change.

Facilitating small group processes viz. participation, decision making, communication, leadership, conflict resolution

Role of trainers in participatory training and self and personality development of a training facilitator.

Interactive Training methods

– Lecture, Small Group Discussion, Role play, Case studies, Learning games, Simulation, etc.

Organizing practical sessions and analysing the same through use of video analysis

Monitoring and evaluation of a training program.


Participants


Participants can be functionaries of the CSOs who are presently involved as trainers or facilitators of social empowerment process at the community level. Persons who are engaged in training of CBOS/collectives will fund 12 courses extremely useful.

Note: Please, note that this is very intense process based training program and hence participants should be selected very carefully. Please, ensure that the person must have spent 1-2 years’ time in development programs/community level processes/facilitator and training of CBOs, Women collectives and training of SHG.


Methodology

  • The training program shall be conducted in a participatory manner, in which participants are involved in mutual learning and sharing process.

  • The sessions are made highly interactive so that no stone is left unturned in imparting the concepts and principles of participatory development.

  • Emphasis is placed on using methods of adult learning such as small group discussion, case study, role-plays, simulations, video reviews, etc.

  • Presentations of case studies and the material prepared on the theme forms the basis for group discussion. Direct reading, relevant exercise and assignments on specific topic drawing lesson from their own context will supplement these.

  • Process labs for understanding self and personality and how it helps as process facilitation.

  • Participatory learning games and energizers are used to create a conducive learning environment for behaviour change.


Language - Considering the background and participant’s profile this training program is conducted essentially in Hindi. However, technical terms are dealt with in English as well.

Dates -The participants are requested to arrive latest by evening of 19th Sept, as the training training session will start at 8:00 pm after dinner. The training will conclude on 25th Sept by 5:00pm & the participants can plan their departure accordingly.


Course Fee:

The fee for the training program is ₹6,000.00 per person that includes tuition fee, cost of learning materials, stationary, staying, food charges and service tax payable to the government and other training expenses.Please note that travel related expenses will be borne by the participants only. Fee can be paid through Cheque/ Demand draft/ Bank Transfer in favour of “Sahbhagi Shikshan Trust” payable at Lucknow or through UPI/Credit or Debit card.


Venue:

The training will be organised at SST’s own training centre situated on the Lucknow-Sitapur highway. It is a well-equipped training centre with all needed basic amenities and facilities such as WiFi, library, canteen and other, which are available for participants.Participants will be provided 4 bedded rooms /or double bedded room with attached wash room. However, participants are requested to bring their toiletries with them. All COVID-19 related protocols must be followed. Participants who have got at least one dose of vaccination will be allowed.


 

Trainer Team:

A team of experienced trainers headed by Mr.Ashok Singh will conduct this training.


Mr. Ashok Singh is having more than 36 years of experience of facilitating this course.



Dr. Rajesh Tandon, President of PRIA will also be in the Trainer team for couple of days. He is the pioneer of this course and has developed this course and its pedagogy in India.
