Trainings for capacity building of Civil Society Organizations
SSK conducted training on RTI & PRI for World Vision India, IPM Moradabad at SSK, Lucknow in which 31 participants participated in the training during 17th-20th September. Participants learned about the three tiers Panchayati Raj System with special focus on Gram Panchayat, its constituents, functions, important committees, role an responsibilities of ERs, social responsibilities, government programs, leadership, strengthening women leadership, conducting meetings and monitoring development programs etc. and understanding of RTI (Right To Information Act) and its use in ensuring development of people.
Training of Trainers on Participatory Training
SSK also conducted training on Participatory Training methodology (PTM) on participatory training during 26th -30th September which was attended by 25 participants from JEEViKA (BRLPS), Bihar. Interactive Training methods as Lecture, Small Group Discussion, Role play, Case studies, Learning games, etc. with organizing practical sessions and analyzing the same through use of video recording were used as methods for imparting the training.
Training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal)
Training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) was also conducted by SSK as this is the most widely used data collection tool particularly in micro planning. Having understanding of PRA is important particularly for those who intend to collect data in rural context or with those who are less educated, poor communities etc. Training was conducted during 13th – 17th September in which 24 participants from BRLPS participated in the training. The focus of the training was given more on understanding the processes apart form the tools and techniques.
Capacity Building of Newly Elected Representatives of Gram Panchayats
Training of newly elected representatives of Gram Panchayat of 50 panchayats of Latehar Sadar, Manika and Chandwa block of Latehar district of Jharkhand was successfully conducted in the month of September 2011. An altogether of 489 newly elected representatives of gram panchayats benefitted from the training. The three days training was conducted in several batches and was based on the modules provided by Panchayati Raj Department (Special Division), Jharkhand. SSK team took special care in training by making it participatory and based upon the adult learning principle.
SAHBHAGI VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE (SVTC)
Successful Completion of 3rd Batch of Computer fundamentals training
Sahbhagi has independently developed a vocational training centre, named as Sahbhagi Vocational Training Centre. The main idea behind this is building skills of marginalized community of nearby villages to enhance their employablity. 3rd batch of Computer Fundamental Training running under Sahbhagi Vocational Training Centre successfully completed this month. There were 12 participants and most of them were from Dalit, Backward class & other marginalized communities. Girls of the nearby villages participated in the training. Duration of the training was one month under which, we tried to cover computer basic fundamentals.

Course content was designed in such a way, that participants at the end of the training will be able to do documentation work in English as well as in Hindi, accessing internet, emailing, etc. Apart from the course content, we also tried to sensitize girls regarding Women Empowerment and develop awarenesss about Gender related issues. We tried to develop their leadership skills, personality development, etc.
4th Batch of SVTC is running successfully
SVTC 4th Batch of Computer fundamental training started from 12th Sep, 2011. From our prior experiences, we felt the need of increasing the duration of the course and increased duration from one month to 45 days. 12 Girls are admitted in this batch also. We provide 1 seperate computer to each girl. Till now, basic computer foundation level topics like hardware/software, desktop, memory, etc. including Notepad, MS Paint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint are completed.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESOURCE CENTRE
About 2 Km connectivity road was eroded by River Ghaghara
About 2 Km. connecting road was eroded by flooded Ghaghra river in Dhapali purwa in Baharampur gram panchayat. Dhapali purwa, Lolinan purwa and Khasepur people were totally cut off from the rest of the district. Now after flood the Ghaghra water level has continuously been receding and hence rate of soil erosion has become much faster day by day in every flood affected gram panchayats. Thousand of hectare agriculture lands has been eroded by Ghaghra this year. Communities left their shelters and evacuated the other side of Adampur Rewila embankment. The early warning task force member Keshavram said” there were lots of problem faced by the communities during flood as problem of social security, problem of potable water and the places for taking shelter.
Malteser representative’s field visit
During last week of September 2011 Malteser Representative Mr. Arno Crover visited Kaisergnaj field office. On the first day he met with volunteers and discussed regarding the major problem faced by community during floods. Especially related to defecation, drinking water, bathing and early warning massages etc. Next day he went to District Disaster Management Cell to see the improved early warning syste supported by SSK. He also saw how to broadcast the massages related to water releases through the system. He also participated in the task force and community level meetings at Fathesingh Purwa and Sitarampurwa in Baghiya and lahadra Gram panchayat. Community strongly raised the problems regarding unavailability of toilet and drinking water especially during the floods.
DRR Plan review
5 DRR plan of 4 Gram panchayats were review under the Mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into the local development process in U.P project. On the presence of HDC/Task force members and communities the previous DRR plans were properly modified encompassing vulnerability analysis, social maps, hazards and problem analysis of current situations. Restructuring of HDC and task force committees were also taken place.
DRR Plan at Munim purwa
SSK has been intervening in Munim Purwa at Ahata gram panchayat. Ahata is fully flood prone gram Panchayat of Jarwal block. There was 74 families lived in this hamlets. SSK has facilitated prepare the disaster Risk Reduction plan of Munim Purwa with the community. Women participated with great enthusiasm in this whole process of planning. Now, the community is well aware of DRR planning processes.
Meeting with elected representative
Panchayat level meeting has been organized in Lahadra and Tapesipah Gram panchayat in Ram Nagar block with elected representatives. The objective of this meeting was to develop understanding and coordination between SSK and ERs for proper implementation of the project. Smt. Jasmata Devi, Gram pradhan Tepesipha said that most of the women Pradhans do not understand her role and responsibilitie as ER. Smt. Ram Rani Gram Pradhan lahadra said “this is the first time we are sitting in common platform. It is a nice experience for us”. All the 11 Gram Pradhans and Panchs are much interested to attend capacity build trainings on PRIs and government related projects.
GOVERNANCE RESOURCE CENTRE
Training of trainers for Master trainers on Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI)
SSK is identified as a State training agency by Department of Panchayati Raj, Uttar Pradesh to conduct trainings for 216 Master trainers from 72 districts of State. Training programme is being organized in SSK training Centre, Lucknow in 7 batches. Training is mainly aiming to develop thematic understanding of the participants on PRI as well as inculcating training skills. Last month, 4 batches of TOT for Master Trainers on PRI succussfully completed. Total 129 participants were trained from 13th Sep till 27th Sep, 2011.
Promoting Education for Minority Women and girls through Community led Change Agents
Celebration of Girl Child Day
September 24th, international girl child day, looks to bring light to the issues and awareness to the plight of girls across the globe. On 24 September, 2011 on Girls Child day SSK was organized a celebration in the premise of Conference hall of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhyapeeth Varanasi. The objective of the celebration was to sensitize the community towards Right to Education and demanding action. About 300 adolescent girls and women from Cholapur block performed various skit and play and attended the programme to raise awareness on highly skewed sex ration. In this occasion Ms. Manjula Chaturvedi Chairperson of humanitarian department, Mr. Narendra District protection officer Dr. Annapuna Shukla, Director of Vanita polytechnic, and Dr. Sanjay Singh, HOD of Sociology dept., MGKVP and Sr. Maju from DARE organization was addressed the event and shared their view on this day.
Organizing Adolescent Awareness and Empowerment Campaign
The campaign was organized from 7th till 23rd Sep, 2011 at 10 Gram panchayats of Cholapur Block. Campaign goal was to build community awareness on the threats of declining girl education and its impact of the social life. The campaign was focused on getting girls into school, raising awareness about issues leading to gender disparity, generating public support towards the cause and mobilizing resources so as to contribute towards eliminating gender disparity in education. Main activities included in the campaign were sports, drawing & Slogan competition, rally, exposure visit at government departments and exposure visit to Weaver Service center. The campaign not only creates a wider consciousness about issues but also lend opportunities to promote best practices and work closely with communities to highlight all the linkage between girl education and development. Around 2000 girls came together and participated in the activities.
Block level workshop on School Sanitation and its Management
A consultation workshop at Block level was organized on 20th September, 2011 at Conference hall of Cholapur Block. The objective of the workshop was to sensitize the stakeholders with regard to school sanitation and its current situation. The report card survey finding on school sanitation was shared with the present stakeholders, block level administrative officials and village education committee. Through the open session various views and eye opening facts related to school sanitation have come out. In this consultation Mr. Anil Kumar Shrivastava, ADO panchayat Cholapur block, Mr. Uma Shankar Vishvakarma, Health officer, Rahul Chaturvedi ABRC, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan etc. was participated and presented their consideration on the issue and agree to make a effective plan for its betterment.
Training on “Personality Development and Communication to Adolescent girls”
With perspective of adolescent confidence building, life skill building education training is going on. Its II phase on leadership is completed and III phase training on “Personality development and communication” is started from this month. In this first batch of 20 girls was organized for in DARE office in Varanasi for the adolescent group of Tisaura Gram panchayat. Through the training general understanding on own development, importance of confidence building and effective communication skill and its importance have discussed.
Muslim and Dalit Girls Child and Women Empowerment Programme
Adolescent Girls Participated in Women’s Advocacy Meeting “Astitva”
Breakthrough a Human Rights organization organized a women’s advocacy meeting on 8th September, 2011 at campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhtapeeth, Varanasi. In this programme SSK given handholding support and about 100 adolescent from Cholapur block took part in the programme to highlight the issue of domestic violence and the Protection of Women against the Domestic Violence Act 2005. Astitiva was an effort to highlight the enormity of domestic violence in Uttar Pradesh to bring together men, women, Civil Society Organization partners to curb violence against women and provide access to services and ensure that women live with dignity. The cultural programmes, puppet show also performed in the event.
Guardian Interface
On 2nd September, 2011 Guardian interface meeting was organized at panchayat Bhawan
of Cholapur and Srikhanthpur. The main agenda of the meeting was to sensitize the guardian’s towards domestic violence to the and also maintaining a friendly relationship of the guardian with respect to the study of their girl child. Being a guardian how to treat to their developing girls. It was not one way communication forum some issues related to girls’ in the village also shared by the guardian. During the meeting Guardian have shared major issues of their respective village of the violence and domestic violence and also aware with their responsibility as a guardian. About 50 Guardian have participated in the meeting from Dhaurahara Justice Panchayat.
Meeting with Adolescent Girls
The meeting with adolescent was organized on 6th September, 2011 at Cholapur and
Dhaurahara Gram Panchayats. The agenda of the meeting was domestic violence, the general orientation on domestic violence and its effect was shared with adolescent. The type of domestic volence , what will be the action taken, how action taken to mitigate the violence was shared with the girls. The general information of PWDVA act and provision also shared with adolescent. About 50 girls from both gram panchayats have participated in the meeting and shared their feeling.
Visit to Coaching and Computer Centers
On 20th and 22nd September, 2011 coaching centers was visited of Cholapur and Dhaurahara Nyay panchayats. During the visit preparation of half yearly exams basic methodology of study, regularity of students in the coaching and computer classes, was checked and further shared the same issues.
In was noted that, the girls are maintaining their regularity in the coaching centers and as well as computer centers. In the computer centers the progress of the student is satisfactory and good in some centers. In the computer the girls have learnt fundamental of the computer and presently they are practicing for hindi typing.

Legal Counseling
Legal counseling session has been organized for the migrants of Akbarganj and Mirzapurva. We covered around 350 migrants. In this session we invited resource person (Advocate) from civil court. He counsels all the migrants about their rights. Further he emphasized on following issue:-
(i) Wages (ii) Contract paper (iii) Nature of work and (iv) Identity proof
At last it was said by the Panchayat citizen leaders that whenever any labor faces any problem then they should inform to the cluster in charge.
Advisory Committee Meeting
The monthly meeting of Advisory committee has been organized in this month at Sharamik Saahayata Kendra Sitapur Office. In the meeting at first discuss about the previous meeting agenda and its follow up. The meeting minutes have distributed to the members. A brief introduction of ongoing project has been shared with the members.
Suggestion from members:
• According to one of the advisory member, SSK can find placement opportunities for the student at civil court for typing, nursing home for data entry, medical shops for records maintain etc.
• For future also keep in mind to organize vocational training on POP, Plumbering, House wiring, Electronic and Electrical, Motor mechanic etc.
• SSK can publish IEC on various govt. schemes and distribute it among target group.
Women Collective (Prawasi Pariwar Samuha)
The monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their respective villages. In this month data of all collective are collected regarding beneficiaries of social security scheme. Women of Chand Pravasi Parivar Smooh of Asodar went to meet Gram Pradhan many times, but he was not available at home, when he came to know, then he came and ask those women then women of collective organized a meeting and shared their problem related to access of govt. schemes. Gram Pradhan briefed about eligibility criteria of accessing various govt. schemes and also assured to provide facility of the same to the eligible people.
Youth Mobilization
Finalized new batch of 25 youth for basic computer.10 student from previous batch of Tally and basic computer got selected in interview to open no frill a/c in Allahabad bank.
3 student of mobile repairing batch got job on mobile shop at Khairabad and 2 started mobile repairing from their home and started to earn.
Mobile Kiosk
Mobile Kiosk has been organized at extensive area of the project. In this month kiosk has been organized at Ashrafpur market of Khairabad block. In the kiosk the services given by Shramik Sahayta Kendra has been disseminated with the IEC materials. It is a Muslim dominated area and migrant from this panchayat mostly prefer to go Lucknow and Kanpur for construction work and rickshaw and auto rickshaw pulling. The migrants who understood and felt the need of ID cards came and apply for the ID cards and others who are locally migrate registered themselves in the format of registration.
ID card and registration
Registration of migrants and providing of photo identity card is in ongoing process. Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach.
Demand of ID Cards and registration rose from the extensive area. During the project period we registered 1600 migrants among 610 ID card are distributed. In this month we have registered 160 migrants and among 50 ID card have distributed.
Research Study
A study on financial inclusion has been done to find out best product for the migrants workers. In this study the focused was to find out appropriate financial products for the migrants for their financial security.

Health Camp
This health camp is organized on 27 sept.11 in the collaboration with Ashadeep Foundation at Panchasheel colony, loni road, bhopura with Sitapur migrants group. Total 195 peoples took benefits of this camp.Mr. M.K.Joshi, Asst. Labour Commissioner was present in this camp.
Meeting with Migrants
Meeting with migrants is done at Panchsheel Colony, Lony Road bhopura with Sitapur migrants group & also at Mahendra Enclave Shashtri Nagar with riksha pullar group on the issue of registration and ID card, UID, JPA policy, health and hygiene, trade based collective etc.
Data Collection:- Data regarding urban area is collected.
