| Trainings for capacity building of Civil Society Organizations | |||
| SSK
conducted “Training for SHG Facilitators” at Social Development
Center (SDC), Ranchi during 18th -22nd October. The participants from
different organizations specially working with SHGs participated in this
training program as- Arcelor Mittal India Ltd., JICATCP Shimla, LJK, BRLPS
and Vedic Society etc. Twenty one participants comprising male and female
participated in this training. Major topics of discussion during the training
were as context of SHG formation, group processes as- leadership, conflict
resolution, communication etc. in the SHG groups; SHG development processes,
stakeholders’ analysis and advocacy, self and personality influencing
the skill of a facilitator and documentation processes etc. |

| Training on CBO Management | |||
It was organized for Agribusiness Systems International (ASI) an international
organization of U.S during 19th - 23rd October. 26 participants participated
in this training. Participants learned and internalized about the societal
context and SHG as vehicle for bringing change in the social and economical
condition of poor farmers. Bringing leadership into fore and leadership
as major attribute for change was one of the majors of discussion. Besides
the core functions of CBO especially SHG, necessary documentation, the
group processes as leadership, communication, participation, decision
making and conflict resolution were discussed at length. Participants
participated in the training with great enthusiasm. |

| Training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) | |||
Training
on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) was also conducted by SSK as this
is the most widely used data collection tool particularly in micro planning.
Having understanding of PRA is important particularly for those who intend
to collect data in rural context or with those who are less educated,
poor communities etc. The training was conducted during 13th – 16th
October in which twenty five participants from BRLPS participated in the
training. The focus of the training was given more on understanding the
processes and practicing the different PRA exercise in real situation.

| TOT on Participatory Trainng | |||
SSK
also conducted TOT on participatory training during 11th -18th October
which was attended by 26 participants from JEEViKA (BRLPS), Bihar. By
the end of the training the participants learned and internalized about
the concept of participatory training, analyzing training needs, understanding
appropriate participatory training methods, tools, techniques, understanding
group processes, improving self and personality of a trainer, different
roles a trainer has to play during participatory training, designing effective
participatory training and its various steps, learning facilitate participatory
training sessions and understanding Trainer Team. |

| Fourth Batch of Computer Fundamental Training Completed successfully | |||
4th
Batch of Computer Fundamental Training running under Sahbhagi Vocational
Training Centre successfully completed this month. There were 12 participants
and most of them were from Dalit, Backward class & other marginalized
communities. At the end of the training, girls were more confident, they
shared their feelings with us. They expressed, that they learned a lot
from this training. |

| Fifth Batch of Computer Fundamental Training Started | |||
SVTC
4th Batch of Computer fundamental training started from 12th Sep, 2011.
From our prior experiences, we felt the need of increasing the duration
of the course and increased duration from one month to 45 days. 12 Girls
are admitted in this batch also. We provide 1 seperate computer to each
girl. Till now, basic computer foundation level topics like hardware/software,
desktop, memory, etc. including Notepad, MS Paint, MS Word, MS Excel,
MS Powerpoint are completed. |

| International Disaster Risk Reduction Day | |||
12th
October 2011 International Disaster Risk Reduction Day celebrated at Late
Hukum Singh inter collage playground in Kaiserganj, Bahraich. All the
450 hamlet development committee members from 11 gram panchayats participated
in this program. The objective of this program was to provide a common
platform to share experiences on reducing the disaster’s risk at
the local level. The other objective of the program was also to disseminate
the message on different efforts made by the community so that others
pose to endeavor for the same.

Nepal
practical action team visit in Kaiserganj |
|||
A team of Practical Action, Nepal visited the two most flood affective blocks of district Bahraich to see the early warning system, during 17th -20th October.Main purpose of this visit is to setup link of flood information from upper stream (Nepal) to downstream (India) in the future. Therefore, community who lived at downstream will get flood information (rainfall forecast) four to five days ahead. The team also visited district disaster management center and acquainted with the early warning system established in the center. |

SSK has been intervening in Tapesipah and Ram Ahata gram panchayat. Both these gram panchayats are fully flood affected. The community of Korian purwa and Ram Sagar Purwa have prepared the disaster Risk Reduction plan facilitated by SSK. In this process the communities has prepared social map of its respective hamlets. Now they understand the importance of DRR plan in respect of disaster management and concern of floods. |

Gram
Panchayat level meeting has been organized at Sisunda and chulambha Gram
panchayat in Ram Nagar and Kaiserganj block with newly panchayat elected
representatives. Ganesh yadav, Gram pradhan of Sisunda said that this
is the first time when all the panchayat members are meeting at a common
platform and share his/her experiences. This was also the first time when
all the women representatives participated in this meeting. They came
out with the fact that they even do not understand their roles and responsibilities
as Panchyat representatives. Ms. Kiran and Ms. Neelam said- this is the
first time we are sitting in common platform, and it’s a good learning
experience. Gram Pradhan said that I will try to regularize meetings at
Gram Panchayat level. |

| Formation of Gram panchayat level Disaster Risk Reduction committee | |||
|
Gram
Panchayat level disaster Risk Reduction committee has been formed in Ahata,
Nasirganj, Baharampur and Matrepur gram panchayats. Each HDC has selected
1 to 2 members from its HDC,and than finally 10 members HDC committees
were formed at Gram Panchayat level. These committees will work towards
Panchyat development specially meant for DRR planning and management at
the community level. The committee members will create pressure over gram
panchayat to organize regular panchayat meetins,, Gram Sabha meetings
and select vulnerable families to be given priority as beneficiaries and
being served at community level. |

| Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant workers Source End | |||

Meeting One day orientation program organized at Shramik Sahayata Kendra Khairabad on 21.10.2011. The objective behind this activity was to sharing of experience of migration project with them and takes valuable suggestions for formulating future strategy. |

End
line survey (focus group discussion) with all the stakeholder Focus group discussions are conducted with Migrants and their family, Pravasi Pravasi Samooh, Youth Club, PRI representative, Citizen leaders, Government department etc. The objective behind was to assess about project services and take suggestions for next phase. |

| Legal Counseling | |||
Legal
counseling session has been organized for the migrants of Mubarakpur and
Parsehara Kala on 24 & 28 October 2011. We covered around 100 migrants.
In this session we invited resource person (Advocate) from civil court.
He counseled all the migrants about their rights. Further he emphasized on following issue:- (i) Wages (ii) Contract paper (Ikrarnama before work) (iii) Nature of work and (iv) Identity proof In the last it said by the relevant Panchayat citizen leaders that whenever any labor faces any problem then they should come to inform to the cluster in charge so that they can verify and work upon that. |

| Advisory Committee Meeting | |||
The
monthly meeting of Advisory committee has been organized in this month
at Sharamik Saahayata Kendra Khairabad on 29 Oct, 2011. In the meeting
at first discuss about the previous meeting agenda and its follow up.
The meeting minutes have distributed to the members. A brief introduction
of ongoing project has been shared with the members. Basically learning,
achievement and challenges of the pilot phase, so that after making improvement
we can move forward in next phase. |

| Women Collective (Prawasi Pariwar Samuha) | |||
The
monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their respective
villages.Agenda of the meeting was accessing Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana.
Data collection of all the collective regarding beneficiaries of social
security scheme is also a regular activity. Women of Saraswati Pravasi
Parivar Smooh of Maluhi Saraiya went to meet Gram Pradhan many times,
to demand street in their village, and after a long time their voice is
being heard and now a day construction of the street is in progress. |

| Youth Mobilization | |||
Started new batch of 25 youth for basic computer. 2 students (1 from mobile
repairing batch and 1 from computer) got job in different placement agency.
Monthly meeting of Kamyabi club is organized at Shramik Sahayata Kendra.
Members of youth club gave valuable suggestions regarding the project. |

| Mobile Kiosk | |||
Mobile
Kiosk has been organized at intensive area of the project on 19.10.2011.
In this month kiosk has been organized at Rahimabad market of Khairabad
block. In the kiosk the services given by Shramik Sahayta Kendra has been
disseminated with the IEC materials. It is a Muslim dominated area and
migrants from this area mostly prefer to go Lucknow and Kanpur for construction
and viewing work, rickshaw and auto rickshaw pulling. The migrants who
understood and felt the need of ID cards came and apply for the ID cards
and others who are locally migrate registered themselves in the format
of registration form Citizen leaders of Khairabad Samajik Vikas Prerak
Sangh were actively involved in the process of information dissemination
and ID and registration. |

Registration
of migrants and providing of photo identity card is in ongoing process.
Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach. Demand
of ID Cards and registration rose from the extensive area. During the
project period we registered 1670 migrants among 646 ID card are distributed.

| Signature campaign | |||
Signature campaign as a part of sanitation campaign is organized Panchasheel
colony, loni road, bhopura with Sitapur migrants group. Community people
have raised voice for basic sanitation facilities and they will submit
the application and signed banner to the respective authority. |

| Mobilization Meeting with Migrants | |||
Meeting with migrants has been done at Panchsheel Colony, Loni Road bhopura
with Sitapur pillow maker migrants group & also at Mahendra Enclave
Shashtri Nagar with riksha pullar group on the issue of registration and
ID card, JPA policy, sanitation issues and local problem. |

| Resource Group Meeting | |||
The
monthly meeting of the resource group isorganized at Sharamik Sahayta
Kendra, Ghaziabad. In the meeting the members took part and gave their
valuable suggestion. In the meting the ongoing project activities of source
and destination end and also progress till date has been shared with the
members. The future plan (regarding expansion of the project) has been
shared with the members. It has been discussed that we have focused on
a particular pocket with migrant issue, so we should organize the interfacing
meeting with govt. which will help to interven. |

| Interfacing | |||
An
interfacing meeting is organized at Panchsheel colony between labor department
and community people. In this meeting community people shared that there
is no any government school in their surrounding area and further they
are not able to send their children in highly expensive private school
so kindly make arrangement of any school. Labor department official said
that they will try to open a labor child school in the surrounding area.

| Promoting Education for Minority Women and girls through Community led Change Agents | |||
| District Level Workshop on “Right to Education and School Sanitation” | |||
A
workshop on Right to Education and School Sanitation was organized on
17th October, 2011 at the hotel clark of Varanasi District. SSK carried
out a citizen Report card Survey on School Sanitation. According to report
presented at workshop poor sanitation and hygiene facilities in school
played important role enhancing the number of drop outs. A number stakeholder
from civil society organizations, academia and media were participated
in the consultation and shared their work experience on RTE. The consultation
was chaired by Mr. Ram Asrey Dubey (District Panchayati Raj officer),
Mr. D.G.Tiwari (Deputy basic Shiksha Adhikari), and Mr. Haji Mukhtar (president
of quami welfare society). |

| Exposure Visit to ABSSS Chirakoot for Community Change Agents | |||
Exposure
visits is a key work in capacity building role. Exposure visit facilitates
learning; it entails two or more parties where one is learning from the
other. Keeping this view one exposure visit to Akhil Bharti Samaj Sewa
Snasthan, Chitrakoot was planned from 19th October, 2011 to 22nd October,
2011. The objective of the workshop was to promotes issues of good practices
and a process of building on underlying, two parties by interfacing with
other. Major learning through the activity was SHG formulation, Women
empowerment and collective action as well as they also learned watershed
technology also seen by the CCAs. |

| Training on “Leadership” to Adolescent girls | |||

With
perspective of adolescent confidence building, two days training on ‘Leadership’
was organized on 24th and 25th October, 2011 in DARE office in Varanasi
for the adolescent group of Cholapur Gram panchayat. Through the training
general understanding on own development, importance of confidence building
and effective communication skill and its importance have discussed. The
participatory and play method was used in the training. |

| Orientation of Animators | |||
One
day orientation meeting was organized of animators at SSK Varanasi on
5 October,2011. This meeting was attended by 15 animators and project
staff. The objective of the meeting was to orient the animators about
the SSK and PACS project. The major agenda discussed the meeting were;
introduction of SSK, organizational and reporting structure, society and
their perspective of society, roles and responsibility as change agents,
as well as organizational rules and regulation. Total 20 participants
were participants in the meeting. |

| Training on Baseline surveyCommunity Meeting and rapport building | |||
PACS
programme has officially commenced from 15th September, 2011. To establish
a bench mark and understand the real situation at the ground level PACS
team planned to conduct a baseline survey in |

all states and by all CSOs. To obtain this objective three days training
on baseline organized at Tarang Banquets, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow from 20th
to 22nd October, 2011. The major issues shared in the training were; introduction
of M&E, PACS baseline, base line sampling, mock session and conducting
interview. One field practice was also done by all participants at the
village of Ajiz Nagar, Barabanki district. |

| Community Meeting and rapport building | |||
The
month of October was filled with field level support. The project staffs
and animators focused mainly on rapport building exercise especially in
newly adopted villages. In this context team organized community meeting
at villge level, group meeting, contact with different stakeholders and
met PRI members, health and ICDS workers, identified panchayat building
and other suitable places to establish village Resource center. |

| Muslim and Dalit Girls Child and Women Empowerment Programme | |||
Guardian
interface meeting was organized at VIRC of Bhavanipur and Rampur. The
main agenda of the meeting was to sensitize the guardian’s towards
domestic violence to the and also maintaining a friendly relationship
of the guardian with respect to the study of their girl child. Being a
guardian how to treat to their developing girls. It was not one way communication
forum some issues related to girls’ in the village also shared by
the guardian. During the meeting Guardian have shared major issues of
their respective village of the violence and domestic violence and also
aware with their responsibility as a guardian. About 50 Guardian have
participated in the meeting from Dhaurhara Justice Panchayat. |

| Visit to Coaching and Computer Centers | |||
Coaching
centers was visited of Cholapur and Dhaurahara Nyay panchayats. During
the visit |

preparation of half yearly exams basic methodology of study, regularity
of students in the coaching and computer classes, was checked and further
shared the same issues. In was noted that, the girls are maintaining their
regularity in the coaching centers and as well as computer centers. In
the computer centers the progress of the student is satisfactory and good
in some centers. In the computer the girls have learnt fundamental of
the computer and presently they are practicing for hindi typing. |

| Exposure visit of Cambodian Delegates to Varanasi | |||
Three
days exposure visit of Cambodian Delegates to Varanasi was throughout
from 18th to 20th September, 2011. In this delegation team from Cambodia,
eleven traits from Government sector, private sector, media and academia
were visited in the Varanasi. They have interacted with local system and
met with concern authorities to understand the system. They have visited
at Varanasi Municipal Corporation, and meet with Commissioner Mr. S K.
Singh. Mr. Kaushlendra Singh Mayor of the Varanasi welcomed the delegated
and introduced them with system of Varanasi. A part of the Community participation
one meeting with area sabha was also organized for them. They interact
with the community and understand their basic need and its fluffiness.
In the days visit they have visited Interviewed with supervisor of streetlight
maintenance department of Nagar Nigam at Sikrol regional office, Interaction
with A2Z coordinator on solid waste Management, house tax and GIS cell
And helpline counter as well as Sarnath, and Ganga river. |
