Trainings for capacity building of Civil Society Organizations
SSK is going to conduct a TOT on participatory training during 16th -23rd January 2012. The details of the training are available on website www.sahbhagi.org . It invites applications from functionaries of the CSOs, Govt. and other development agencies that are presently involved as trainers or are willing to facilitate trainings in the future. The training can also be very much useful for the functionaries who are facilitating the community level processes in a participatory way. By the end of the training the participants are expected to learned and internalized about the concept of participatory training, analyzing training needs, understanding appropriate participatory training methods, tools, techniques, understanding group processes, improving self and personality of a trainer, different roles a trainer has to play during participatory training, designing effective participatory training and its various steps, facilitating participatory training sessions, understanding Trainer Team etc.
SSK is also going to conducted training on Participatory Training methodology (PTM) on participatory training during 19th -23rd December and training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) during 5th – 8th December 2011 in the SSK premise at Lucknow.
SAHBHAGI VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE
Fifth Batch of Computer Fundamental Training is running successfully
SVTC fifth batch is running successfully. 8 Girls are admitted in this batch also. We provide 1 seperate computer to each girl. Till now, basic computer foundation level topics like hardware/software, desktop, memory, etc. including Notepad, MS Paint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint are completed. We observed, that girls are more keen to learn subjects related to internet and networking. Girls are now able to create ther own email-ids and efficiently sending and receiving emails. They also learned how to open the website and download files through internet.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESOURCE CENTRE
Disaster Risk Reduction Plan at 3 Hamlets
SSK has been intervening in 22 hamlets in Tapesipah, Sisunda and Lahadhra gram panchayats at Ram Nagar blocks in Barabanki District. All the hamlets are fully flood affected. These three gram panchayats are situated near bank of river Ghaghra. The communities have prepared the Disaster Risk Reduction plan in Chaturi Purva, Tiwari Purwa and Thakedar Purva with the support of SSK using participatory process. In this whole DRR planning process communities have prepared their respective social map which supported in vulnerability analysis and other planning processes. Women were also enthusiastically involved in the planning process.
DRR Plan review in 8 Hamlets
8 hamlet level Disaster Risk Reduction plan of Matrepur and Kohali Gram Panchayats have been reviewed. During the DRR reviewing process all Hamlet Development Committee, Task force members and other community members introspected previous DRR plan. Some of the current problems have also included in the DRR plan during the process of review. Restructuring of previous HDC and task force committees also took place.
Meeting with elected representative at Baghiya and Ahata
Panchayat level meetings have been organized with new elected representatives at Baghiya and Ahata Gram panchayat in Kaiserganj and Jarwal blocks of Bahraich district. The basic purpose of this meeting was to developed better understanding and coordination between SSK and panchayat representatives. Smt. Kamla devi Gram pradhn of Baghiya reflected as saying that it was good opportunity for them to gather together and discuss problems or their respective wards and it is SSK which facilitated such opportunity otherwise they don’t used to have such meetings.
Incorporate the DRR plan in Gram Sabha open meeting
On 4th and 18th November 2011 Gram Sabha’s open meetings have been organized in Baharampur and gNasirganj Gram Panchayat in Jarwal block. All the Hamlet development committee members participated in that meeting having their hamlet disaster risk reduction plan. The Konia Purwa HDC members of Nasirganj Panchayat strongly raised the problem in front of Block Development Office, Village Development Officer regarding road repairing, raising plinth of house of vulnerable families and shelter and C\ompensation cheque against crop damage being not distributed. Finally BDO gave order to secretary to write these problems in open meeting register. BDO assured for road repairing as soon as possible. Panchayat level DRR committee of Baharampur Gram Panchayat raised the issue of road repairing of Dhapali purwa and Khasepur damaged during the floods.


Capacity Building of Volunteer’s on PRA and DRR planning
 

Two days volunteers’ capacity build training on PRA and DRR planning was organized at SSK, Kaiserganj. The objective of the training was to develop understanding on how to make disaster risk reduction plan using PRA as a tools. The major topics of discussion were- Building rapport with the community and understanding community communication; Social map; Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability analysis etc.

Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant workers Source End
Legal Counseling
Legal counseling session has been organized for the migrants at Chilwara on 17th November 2011. In this program around 90 migrants participated. Migrantsworkers from this Panchayat use to go Laddakh, Kargil, Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh for selling of carpet. In this session we invited resource person (Advocate) from civil court. He counseled all the migrants about their rights. It is found that they are asked gov. authorized identity card to make entry in that state. At last, it was said by the relevant Panchayat citizen leaders that whenever labour faces any problem, they can come to inform the cluster incharge so that they can verify and work upon that.
Women Collective (Prawasi Pariwar Samuha)
The monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their respective villages. Agenda of the meeting was Savitri Bai Foole Balika Siksha Madad Yojana. Data collection of all the collective regarding beneficiaries of social security scheme is also a regular activity. Women of Benipur Jyoti Pravasi Parivar Samooh took initiative to keep continue education for girl child.


Youth Mobilization
New batch of 25 youth for basic computer is running. Monthly meeting of Kamyabi club is organized at Shramik Sahayata Kendra on 29.11.2011. Agenda of this month was get together between old and new batch of vocational training and further to involved other members in the Kamyabi club.
Mobile Kiosk
Mobile Kiosk has been organized at intensive area of the project on 18.11.2011. In this month kiosk has been organized at market place of Khairabad block. In the kiosk the services given by Shramik Sahayta Kendra has been disseminated with the IEC materials. It is a Muslim dominated area and migrants from this area mostly prefer to go Lucknow, Agra, Surat and Kanpur for viewing and selling of garment and carpet work. The migrants came and apply for the ID cards and others who are locally migrate registered themselves. Citizen leaders of Khairabad Samajik Vikas Prerak Sangh were actively involved in the process of information dissemination and ID and registration.
ID card and registration
Registration of migrants and providing of photo identity card is a ongoing process. Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach. Demand of ID Cards and registration increased from the urban area. Till November 2011 we registered 1732migrants among 675 ID card are distributed.
Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant workers Destination End
Registration/ID camp
Registration/ID camp is organized at Nasirpur Phatak, in which around 200 labors took part. Registration form and IEC materials are distributed among them. This camp is organized in support with CITU.
Mobilization Meeting with Migrants
Meeting with migrants is done at Panchsheel Colony, Lony Road bhopura with Sitapur pillow maker migrants group & also at Mahendra Enclave Shashtri Nagar with riksha pullar group on the issue of registration and ID card, trade based collective formation, JPA policy, sanitation issues and local problem.
Registration and ID card
Registration of migrants and further to provide them photo identity card have started at destination. In November 2011, 34 registration have done among 22 ID have issued.
Follow up of interface meeting
A survey has been done among drop out children at Panchsheel Colony and report is submitted to labor commissioner who will try to construct a child labor school under NCPL (National Child Labor Program)

One day Orientation of project staff
On 9th November 2011 one day orientation of our animators organized at Hotel Rahi, Sarnath. This orientation programme was attended by 15 animators and staff of SSK, Varanasi. The objective of the workshop was to provided basic information to our team on issues related to their work, so that they could be able to utilize this information during their work at field level. In the orientation programme following issues were discussed in detail –

3. Right to education act 2009 and its relevance
4. Key provisions under Domestic violence act 2005
5. Right to information act – 2005 as social change agent
6. SC/ST atrocity act - 1989
Orientation on Baseline
Base line is a very important component for any project. It plays very important role in deciding the expected outcome of the project, it also helps in understanding the real situation at the field level. It helps in deciding benchmark for any project. SSK is working in two districts Varanasi and Ghazipur, we are working on the issue of Livelihood, Health & Nutrition and Education. Our target group belongs to muslim and dalit community. As per sampling we have to cover 2360 households and 59 villages from two districts 40 gram panchayats and 96 villages. We had selected 29 villages from Ghazipur and 30 villages from Varanasi. to train our field staff on baseline and usage of baseline format we organized two day training cum orientation programme on 14th and 15th November 2011. This training programme was attended by our animators and staff members. First day of training programme was fully devoted for discussion on baseline format where as on second day we practiced this format at field level. On day one of the orientation following things were discussed in detail -

Baseline Survey
Presently our PACS team is intensively involved in carrying out the baseline survey at field level. Our target for baseline is 2360 households from 59 villages of Varanasi and Ghazipur. Till now we have completed about 600 households from 15 villages. We are planning to complete this base line the end of December 11.
Interface with ASHA,AWW,ANM & teachers
We organized an ASHA,AWW,ANM & teachers interface at our Harahua block of Varanasi district. This interface organized on 25 November 2011 at Sub-centre of Ganeshpur village of Harahua block. This meeting was attended by 33 participants. During the meeting following things were discussed –
1- SSK and its work
2- PACS programme
3- Discussion on efforts by ASHA, ANM & AWW
4- Challenges face by workers at field level
5- Mutual experience sharing
6- Need of partnership and coordination with line departments
7- How both (SSK & Stakeholders) could be helpful for each other
Citizen Leader Meeting
Citizen leader ‘Nagrik Neta’ are those volunteers and active persons in a mohalla, village or area who can be helpful to our programme by helping in raising voices of poor people or by motivating them to ask for rights. Citizen Leader is a very important component of this project because it expands our reach, provide an additional hands at village level and also it is very essential from sustainability point of view.
Considering the importance of the citizen leaders in our PACS project we have identified 79 citizen leaders across 40 gram panchayats. But merely identification is not sufficient, linkage and sensitization is more important. So during the month we organized two citizen leader meeting one at Harahua and another at Cholapur. These meetings were altogether attended by 39 citizen leader. In the meeting we discussed the following things –
1- About SSK and its work in Varanasi
2- PACS project and its components
3- Concept of citizen leader and its importance in any programme
4- Role of a citizen leader in the context of PACS programme
Muslim and Dalit Girls Child and Women Empowerment Programme
Personality development & Career Counselling Workshop

On 23 November 11 a personality development and career counselling workshop was organized at Raghuvansh Inter College, Dhaurahra. In this programme around 110 girls and teachers participated and got benefited from the programme.
Overall grooming of personality is very important for the development of any child. Confidence, self control, problem solving nature are few important traits for any person but reaching to that level is an art and only continuous efforts could lead to over all personality development. Our resource persons dealt all these issues very well and shared the grooming tips with the girls.
A very extensive, fruitful and interactive session was taken by our resource person. They discussed that how confidence, patience in case of failure, time management and motivation, plays an important role in career development of any person. Girls asked the question on options available to them after their studies. This exercise was very helpful for the girls and they expressed their desire that such kind of work shops should be organized in future.

Starting of computer coaching classes
Knowledge about computers, now a day is becoming very essential for any one. Under Vidya Gyan Programme we had provision of providing basic computer education to 9th and 10th standard girls. Our 10th standard girls had completed one year of their computer coaching in the month of November 11. For the next batch we had identified 104 girls from Dhaurahra and Cholapur NP for computer coaching classes. Their coaching has been started from 1st December 11.
Democratizing the urban Governance: People participation and Social Accountability
Orientation on Self disclosure under RTI under Urban Programme
On 26th November 2011 an orientation workshop on Public Self Disclosure under RTI Organized at the auditorium of department of Social Work of Mahatama Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi. This programme is attended by around 95 students and teachers of social work department. This workshop was organized by SSK, Varanasi in collaboration with MGKPV and supported by PRIA, New Delhi. The objective of this work shop was to share the importance of self disclosure under RTI in contest of Nagar Nigam. In the workshop following things discussed –
• Major provisions under RTI act
• Self disclosure in context of Municipal Corporation
• Seventeen points under public self disclosure
PGSS Exposure visit
Poorvanchal Gramin Seva Samiti (PGSS) a Gorakhpur based organized exposure visits for the elected panchayat members of Gorakhpur and Deoria. These PRI members visited Ganeshpur & Rampur Gram Panchayats of our Harhua and Cholapur block. These members visited on 5 and 19 November 2011 altogether in these two visits 83 PRI members out of this 34 were male and 49 were female. The objective of this visit was to learn from our experiences, works done by panchayats and mutual sharing of ideas.
 
The Ranchi Unit of SSK has signed a contract with VANI, New Delhi to conduct a study on status of Voluntary Organisations in Jharkhand and submit a citizens card report of the same. The study is of one month duration and the report will be submitted to VANI in Mid. January, 2012.
