Migration-
Project Implementation Area, Mirzapur
Meeting
with women SHGs:
SSK Team members interacted with women SHGs( Maa Durga
WSHG and Nirmla WSHG). The main focus of the meeting was
to maintain the records register of SHGs. During the meeting,
it was informed that saving account opening task in Punjab
& Sind Bank Gurusandi is now complete. |

Forming new Women SHG: In the project,
SSK team members are encouraging migrants families to
create new SHGs to solve their problems. In Masaree
village, topics for community discussion issues were
daily purchasing, women's health and other health related
issues. |
Campaign with Mobile Rath:.
Mobile Rath in 2 village Panchayats was organized. The
main motive behind the campaign was to promote safe
migration in village panchayats and to make people aware
of migration related issues. SSK members distributed
pamphlets of HIV/AIDS and safe migration with the help
of Mobile Rath. |

Migrants meeting:
SSK team members attended the migrants meeting which
was held at Turkapar village in Masaari village Panchayat.
Total 19 members were present in the meeting. The main
objective of the meeting was to share the information
about safe migration and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Following topics were also discussed in the meeting:
Banking system, insurance, sensitization on railway
rules and other necessary precautions and its benefits.

Information
camp at Mirzapur Railways station:
This month SSK organized migration information camp
at railways station. Main motive of the camp was to
spread information about the safe migration, new age
Banking services and its benefits to migrants. This
was done through pamphlets and counseling medium. In
the course of camp 56 migrants were registered. |
Assignment
of filling Questionnaire:
Migrants profiles were filled by SSK in Masaree &
Sirsee Baghel village Panchayats. This Questionnaire
was based on migration related issues like migration
period, time, main problems of migration places, changes
in quality life after migration, information about HIV/AIDS.
During the profiles filling, SSK team members got some
interrogative issues from migrants like the purpose
of filling the questionnaire, its benefits, etc. SSK
members answered each question with patience. |

Dalit
& Girl Child Education Program, Varanasi
Guardian
Meeting was organized :-
Guardian meeting was
organized on 17 of June, 2010 for the girls enrolled
in Vidya Gyan Scholarship Programme. Mrs.
Shweta Verma, Programme
officer of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi
was also present in
the meeting. Meeting was conducted in Adarsh Inter College
Cholapur where about 232 parents and girls were present.

| Slogan
Competition:
A slogan competition was organized on 17 june, 2010.
Students of class 8th and 9th participated in the competition.
The topics of the competition were Panchayat Election,
Education and Female Feticide. Girls were enthusiastically
involved in the Slogan Competition.

Summer
Camp:- In summer camp, several competitions
were organized at Cholapur and Dhaurara justice panchayat.
Theme based drawing completion was organized. All participants
were asked to add some punch-line in their drawing,
which will add theme in their drawing. Girls actively
participated in this competition. In this way not only
the confidence level of the girls was boosted but also
their creativity explored.

Celebration
of world Environment Day:- SSK
team celebrated the World Environment Day in
the summer camp. Competition
was also organized. The name of the competition was
JAM (just a minute). Competition was about instantly
thinking about any natural thing which an individual
likes and speaking few words related to it. Also
answering some questions related to it.

Migration,
Sitapur
Mobile
Kiosks:- Two mobile kiosks were organized.
One in Saraya Sanni market and another is in Machrehta
Chouraha. Through the kiosks, beyond 15 Panchayats labour
have been informed about the project activities. Labour
came in the center and registered themselves before
their migration. |
Sahbhagi
Shikshan Kendra as Services from Shramik Sahayata Kendra:-
130
migrants are registered in the Kendra. ID cards have
been distributed to 50 migrants. |

Community
Outreach:- Migrants
rights and awareness campaign was organized in two Panchayats,
namely Jainpur Sohrya and Pakariya. The campaign was
headed by the Panchayat Pradhan. 8 villages are covered
through
this campaign. Migrants
are registered and informed about the project activities. |
Group
Formation:-
The newly formed Jyoti Swayam Sahayata Samuha (SHG)
organized their first meeting. This group also started
their savings. |

Workshop:-
A block level Migrants rights workshop was organized.
The workshop was headed by Block Development Officer
(BDO). Panchayat Pradhan and advisory members participated
in this workshop. |

PEVAC
(Pre Election Voters Awareness Campaign)- Project Implementation
Area, Mirzapur
Panchayat
Rath:
SSK
team organized Panchayat Rath which ran in several villages.
The Panchayat Rath sent the message to the community
for participating & electing good members in PRI
election. Our main focus was on weaker section and women.
While the Panchayat Rath was moving, SSK team members
pasted the PRI election awareness posters on walls.
Also convinced the community for electing good &
dedicative representative. |
Wall
painting work: This
month 5 new wall paintings were completed on Panchayat
election. Issues presented through wall paintings were:-
Avoiding Dummy candidate, women participation in Panchayat,
transparent PRI election and other issues.

PEVAC,
Varanasi
Wall-Writing:- Under
PEVAC programme, Wall-Writing work was done to increase
awareness of people against dummy candidate and to encourage
women for PRI election. Wall writing work took place
at Cholapur Justice Panchayats. In this context, meeting
with Communities was also organized. |

Orientation
Programme For The Nigarani Samiti Of Cholapur:- In
PEVAC Cholapur campaign, 2 Orientation Programme were
organized with Nigrani Samiti in the field area on 18th
& 25th June at Srikhandapur, Dhaurhara
and Cholapur. The objective of the orientation was to
clearly define the aim of PEVAC and roles & responsibilities
of Nigrani Samiti. |
Capacity
Building of ASHA Trainers Completion
of all Post Experience Sharing Workshops:- After
the 2 day training on Post Partum Home visit of L3 ASHAs
and the mentoring process, one day Post Experience Sharing
Workshop was planned in all the 7 districts of U.P.
The objective of the workshop
was:
• Providing a stage to ASHAs for Experience Sharing
related to home visits and discussing the learnings
extracted
• Enhancing their (ASHAs) efficiency on counseling
and communicative skills
• Reinforcing the correct usage of home visit
checklist register and flip book
Post Training Experience Sharing Workshops were conducted
in all the Sure Start Districts as scheduled:

Review
meeting at PATH office:- Review meeting
was held at PATH Office on 11th
June, 2010 with all the SSK District coordinator team
and of SSK team working under the project. The main
issues discussed were related to make certain modification
in the ongoing Post Training Experience Sharing Workshop. |
Compilation
of Reports:- The
documentation of the completion reports and weekly reports
on the Post Training Experience sharing has been done
till date. |

C-TAG
(City Technical Advisory Group):-
SSK
holds State level Consultation:-
Sahbhagi
Shikshan Kendra organized a state level Consultation
under Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewal Mission (JNNRM)
in association with C-TAG (City Technical Advisory Group).
Main objective was to share the study and findings of
survey and also to share burning issues of city and
their probable solution. In the presence of Municipal
Commissioner V.K.Dubey and other officials, SSK initially
shared the findings of Citizen report card on water
supply ,sanitation and solid waste Management in Varanasi.

Municipal
Commissioner V.K.dubey praised the efforts of SSK and
also accepted points mentioned in the findings of survey
and assured to provide all possible help in solving
water and sanitation problem of city. He stressed need
for transparency in activities of local bodies . |
Interface
meeting of VMC and CTAG for sharing the progress under
the Jawaharlal
Nehru National Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme:-
An official meeting of City Technical Advisory Group
on 10th
June 2010 was organized by Varanasi Municipal Corporation.
The meeting was chaired by the honorable mayor of Varanasi
Municipal Corporation. The other participants were Mr
V.K Dubey Municipal Commissioner, Mr S.N. Singh Deputy
Municipal Commissioner. Mr J.K Singh from Jal Sansthan
was also present in the meeting with the C_TAG Members.
VMC presented the progress of the programmes implemented
under JNNURM. SSK team members presented the Role and
responsibility of C-TAG and discussed in details on
the facilities provided by municipal Corporation to
C-TAG. Municipal commissioner assured c-Tag that he
will take serious action on the suggestions of C-TAG
and provide monthly progress to C-TAG .

C-TAG
meetings:-
C-TAG meeting was organized on 1st
June, 2010. All the C-TAG members participated in the
meeting. The key issues undertaken in the meeting was
on developing strategy to put pressure on the municipal
corporation to call official meetings of C-TAG and share
the progress of the sanctioned projects under the JNNURM
programme. The other issues undertaken in the meeting
for discussion was on the same model building ground
work undertaken by C-TAG for the city. |

Days field visit of Asia Desk Head:-
“SSK
is doing commendable work at the filed level”,
said Mr. Roland (Asia Desk, Head), Malteser International,
Germany who was on two days field visit to DIPECHO project.
He visited the Kaiserganj project area on 29th and 30th
June 2010, interacted with Community Based Disaster
Management Committee (CBDMC)Task Force Members at Kandauli
and Nasirganj Panchayat. In Ahata Panchayat he interacted
with Hamlet Development Committee members of 11 hamlets.
He also met the District Magistrate, Bahraich and discussed
the issue of Disaster Management in the district.

| DIPECHO
Partners’ Meeting held at Guwahati:-
Three days DIPECHO partners meeting was
held at Guwahati wherein all the 9 partners of DIPECHO,
who are implementing Disaster Management projects in
all parts of the country, participated. Mr. Nagendra
Singh and Mr. Santosh Kumar Singh participated to represent
SSK and shared the project’s achievements. SSK’s
efforts in mainstreaming the disaster risk concerns
were lauded in the meeting and its training modules
were highly appreciated. |
Training
of CBDMCs’ task forces at Lucknow :- The
training for task force members of Community Based
Disaster Management Committees (CBDMCs) of eight flood
affected panchayats of Bahraich district was organized
by SSK from May 31st – June 15th, 2010 at SSK
training centre, Lucknow. In each panchayat, these
task forces were formed on the issues of early warning,
search and rescue, first aid, water, sanitation and
hygiene and social inclusion and were trained on their
respective issues.

The
average ratio of male-female participation was 7:3.
It was experienced that women adhered to their traditional
roles and participated in first aid, watsan and social
inclusion trainings in larger number as compared to
early warning. |
Intervention
in 5 blocks started:-
SSK through its partner organizations started its intervention
in the other 5 flood affected blocks of Fakharpur, Mahasi,
Mihinpurwa, Balha and Shivpur in Bahraich district.
Like the two directly intervened blocks – Kaisarganj
and Jarwal, task forces of CBDMCs of 12 panchayats,
2 in each block will be trained on the isues of early
warning, search and rescue, first aid, water, sanitation
and hygiene. The trainings have been started in these
blocks. |
