SSK
conducted "Training of Trainers on Participatory Training”
from 16-23 Jan 2012 in which 24 participants from different organizations
participated.
By the end of the training the participants learned and internalized
about the concept of participatory tr aining,
analyzing training needs, understanding appropriate participatory
training methods, tools, techniques, understanding group processes,
improving self and personality of a trainer, different roles a
trainer has to play during participatory training, designing effective
participatory training and its various steps, facilitating participatory
training sessions, understanding Trainer Team etc. |

building training of Panchayat Level DRR committee members |

A
3 days training on HDC (Hamlet Development Committee) Management
was organized for the members of Panchayat level DRR committee from
30th Jan till 1st Feb 2012 at SSK, Lucknow.
The main objective of the training was to develop understanding
on leadership and learn to facilitate different group processes
like decision making, participation, communication, conflict resolution
etc. in the group and in the respective communities. And also to
understand the role and responsibility of PLDRR committee’s
members for better disaster risk reduction at the community level.
The major topics of discussion were need of PLDRR committee, effective
communication, good leadership, decision making, group process,
role and responsibility of hamlet development committees, integration
of disaster risk reduction plan into Panchayat development plan
etc. |

| Capacity
building training of PRIs members |
A
two days training on developing understanding on PRI was organized
for ERs of Ahata, Nasirganj and Bahrampur Panchyats of Jarwal block
during 11th – 12th January 2012 at SSK, Lucknow. 25 PRIs members
participated in this training. The main objectives of the training
were to develop common understanding on 73rd amendments in constitution
for strengthening Panchayati Raj. The major topics of discussion
were three tire panchayat system, their functions, role of Gram
Pradhan and ward members, role of VDO, types of panchayat Samities
and their functions; right to information and role of PRIs members
in Disaster Management were also discussed. |

Cash for work started in Jarwal and Kaiserganj blocks |

Since
5th January 2012, repairing of damaged link road has been started
in Munim purwa, Sethia, Karbala purwa in Ahata and Baghiya gram
panchayat under cash for work programme. In this programme some
repair or top dressing work started for those important connectivity
roads which have been collapses/damage during flood. SSK has provided
14 unskilled man days work to the most vulnerable families who are
willing to work in the respective area. Some of the most vulnerable
family’s individual house shall also be repaired under CFW.
All the site works has to be monitored by hamlet development committee.
The committee is responsible for distribution of wages payments.
MNREGA norms have been followed in CFW. |

| Establishing
Balwari Shiksha Kendra opened Ahata G.P. |
SSK
has established a Bal Shiksha Kendra in Ahata Gram Panchyat to fill
in gaps in education facility for the poor children. On 12th January
2012, a Bal Shiksha Kedra is opened which is more of a community
owned and managed supported by Sahbhagi Shikshan Trust, Lucknow.
It is an informal education center for kids. Ahata is fully flood
prone gram panchayat. SSK has been intervening in this Panchayat
for the last four years under the Disaster Rsk reduction programme.
Geographically Ahata is situated between Ghaghra and Sumari River,
which is flooded by the bordering river every year. |

During
preparing Disaster Risk Reduction plan it was observed that the Government
primary schools are not running properly. Now, in Bal Shiksha Kendra there
are 140 students of different age groups. The main objective of this school
is to create school going habit in the small kids of poor. This school
also focuses on children’s health, good manners and maintaining
proper disciplines.

SSK
has intervening 22 hamlets in Tapesipah, Sisunda and Lahadhra gram
panchayats at Ram Nagar blocks in Barabanki District. All these
hamlets are fully flood affected. These three gram panchayats are
situated near bank of river Ghaghra. The communities have prepared
his own hamlet Disaster Risk Reduction plan in Mahallan purwa, Prashadi
purwa, Budhai Purwa , Badal purwa, parashuram purwa and jagrup purwa
with the support of SSK using participatory processes. In this whole
DRR planning process communities have prepared their social map
for the purpose vulnerability analysis of community particularly
during and after floods. Different stake holders were also involved
in the whole planning process. Community says this short of planning
process has been carried out first time in our area. |

SSK
did 10 mobilization meetings in the target gram panchayat. In the mobilization
meeting, SSK focused on Janta Personel Accident(JPA) policy, which is
specially designed and implemented for economically poor and labour. As
a result total 5 migrant labours got registered with this policy.

The
monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their
respective villages. Jyoti Pravasi Parivar Samooh Benipur and Chand
Pravasi Parivar Samooh Asodar opened their saving bank account in
State bank of India. Agenda of the meeting was understanding and
sharing of Janta Personal Accident policy. Women of Saraswati Pravasi
Parivar Smooh of Maluhi Saraiya actively participated in the re-election
of Gram Panchayat due to death of previous Gram Pradhan. |

Mobile
Kiosk was organized at extensive area of the project that is urban
area of Khairabad near police station on 18 Jan 2012. The idea
behind selecting this area for kiosk was- This is a market place
of Khairabad block. In the kiosk, information related to the services
given by Shramik Sahayta Kendra was disseminated through IEC materials.
It is a Muslim dominated area and migrants from this area mostly
prefer to go to Surat, Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Delhi/NCR, Shimla,
Ahmedabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Mumbai etc. People of this area
prefer to sell carpet, cloths and also to work in auto mobile
repairing industry, cutting and tailoring, driving etc. The migrants
who understood and felt the need of ID cards came and applied
for the ID cards and others who locally migrate, registered themselves
in the format of registration. Citizen leaders of Khairabad Samajik
Vikas Prerak Sangh actively involved in the process of information
dissemination, ID and registration. |

Legal
Counseling |
Two
Legal counselling sessions were organized for the migrants at Chilwara
on 19th Jan 2012. In this program migrants from this village panchayat
participated. Migrant workers from this Panchayat went to Laddakh, Kargil,
Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh for selling carpets. Resource person(Advocate)
from civil court counselled all the migrants and informed them about importance
of identity card at destination. he also informaed them about risks of
work they do and what they should do to avoid accident and get benefit
of government accident policy. Former gram pradhan was also present in
the program
At last it was stated by Panchayat citizen leaders that whenever the labor
faces any problem, they must call to the number available behind ID card.

Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach.
Demand of ID Cards and registration rose from the extensive area.
During the project period we registered 1694 migrants among 704

We
organized the Health Camp at Panchasheel Enclave, Loni Road, Bhopura,
Ghaziabad on 24 Jan.12. Total 181 migrants and their family (29
Male, 51 Female & 101 Children’s below 14 years) took
free advice & medicine. In the camp, 3 doctors as physician,
Gynecologist & Child Specialist were available. This camp
is organized in collaboration with Asha Deep Foundation,
Ghaziabad. Information regarding health education also shared
among target group.

ID Card Registration Shivir organized at labor chocks. 355 migrants
covered during shivir. IEC & registration form distributed
among migrants. In the shivir the information regarding Shramik
Sahayata Kendra, the importance of ID cards & Janata Personel
Accident (JPA) Policy are shared. Till date 81 registrations completed
& 60 ID card distributed. |

Sahbha Meeting |
SSK
organized six interface meetings with mahila Sahbha at Cholapur,
Harahua, Saidpur. On 10th & 18th January meeting was held at
Cholapur, 6th & 18th January meeting was held at Harahua, 10th
& 27th January meeting was held at Saidpur. These meetings were
attended by 170 women from muslim and dalit community.
In these meetings, we discussed the importance of group Women at
gram panchayat& gram sabha level and role of Women in the gram
panchayat&gram sabha meeting and its strategy. Coordinators
shared that How do women in the panchayats grapple with the nuts
and bolts of development at the grassroots? Do their life experiences
work against their coming to grips with the issues at hand? Evidence
points to the contrary and within a few months of assuming power,
a substantial percentage has argued for hand pumps, schools, Primary
Health Centres, eradication of child marriages and enrolment of
girl children in schools was ensured.

Data
was collected from different schools in the study through interviews
with members of SMCs. Almost all government run elementary schools
have SMC. SSK has been working to strengthen the members of School
Management Committee in intervened Panchayats of Varanasi district.
In the process, we organized SMC meetings at cholapur and Harahua
Block. Total no. of participants was 99. Following agenda

| Workshop
on Role of Religious Leaders in Social Development |
We
organized a block level workshop on 30th January, 2012 at Saidpur.
The purpose of this workshop was to highlight project idea and the
strategies as well as the change process which are likely to be
addressed through the proposed intervention. Another reason behind
conducting such workshop was that without permission and orientation
of these caste and religious institutions it might be difficult
to work with these communities. If not properly oriented these persons
may oppose our programme and create hindrances in achieving our
project goal. The workshop was participated by 25 participants from
muslim, dalit & backward community. Theme of the workshop was
“Role of Religious Leaders in Social Development””,
with major objectives as follows:
To sensitize religious leaders on the issue of social exclusion
and discrimination.
To sensitize the block level stakeholders especially religious groups
and caste group on the issues of education, health and its importance
focusing by their responsibilities.
To initiate the process of rational communication between different
stakeholders at local level for sustainable solutions of the problems.
Developing and strengthening coordination with religious leader
to take up joint initiatives towards creating awareness on health,
education, nutrition and basic services.

meeting organized with library committee members at Village resource
centre. In each meeting Library committee members and active Citizens
participated actively. Objective of the meeting was to strengthen
the Village Resource Centre and to know the concerns of community.
In the meeting discussed the following things –
How to make interesting the educational games and the given the
insight to develop interest of students in the subjects so that
they were enjoyed the learning.
To discussed on the increase visibility of VRC and utilization
of the resources like NEWS papers, Employment NEWS at VRC.
To discussed on the role and responsibility of the Village education
Committee and Library committee Members.

Guardian
meeting was organized of the girls enrolled in Vidhya Gyan Scholarship
Programme Scholarship Programme .The meeting was conducted in Cholapur
Naya Panchayat and Dhuarhara Naya Panchayat. During meeting shared
the silent features of RTE act,2009 and detail discussion on provision
for School management Committee its composition, functions, role
and responsibilities under RTE. The focus of the discussion was
how to active parents support to SMC members to initiate the process
of quality education in the school.
During the meeting we shared to the parents about the scholarship
amount and information and sharing the observation of computer test
and next three month course of Computer classes for classes -IX.
All guardians have an opportunity to share their feeling and ask
questions.The guardians shared their experience of their girl’s
progress and personality development behavior. |

Help Group Meeting |

This
orientation program was about breaking the ice for these groups
and letting them know the importance of risk taking and making
them understand the importance of working in a group. Also through
this program we tried to understand the problems faced by them
and also the reason that why they don’t want to indulge
themselves in any group activity or business. With such an aim
and women as prime stakeholder under our ongoing project, we conducted
two SHGs meeting on 10th & 18th January at Dharaura &
Kursiya respectively from Cholapur Block.
These groups were comprised of muslims and dalit community members.
Members of this group contribute Rs.50 every month. In joint effort
they contribute a part of their income and take loan as and when
required. The members in this group are from labour class, agricultural
class and bunker family. These groups have not yet started any
entrepreneurial activity. We told them motivational stories which
are of very basic standards |

Workshop
on Relevance Of Citizen Charter And Role Civil Society |
On
31st Jan 2012, an orientation workshop on Relevance of Citizen Charter
and role civil society was organized at the conference hall of Central
Bar Association Kachahari Varanasi. This programme was attended
by around 59 advocates. This workshop was organized by SSK, Varanasi
and supported by PRIA, New Delhi. The objective of this work shop
was to share the relevance of citizen charter in contest of Nagar
Nigam.

Citizen Charter in context of Municipal Corporation
Significance of Citizen Charter in current scenario
Role of civil society to formulation and implementation of Citizen

Pamphlet on Citizen Charter & Grievance Redressal Mechanism at Varanasi

Under
the umbrella of Urban Programme in association with PRIA, we developed
four types of Pamphlet as an initiative of Varanasi Municipal
Corporation (VMC) at Varanasi District. With the objective to
strengthen Grievance Redressal System and create awareness on
Citizen Charter, Right to Information & increasing community
participation in keeping the city neat & clean. The pamphlet
on Citizen Charter is in form of Brochure which contains concept,
guideline, uses & relevance of Citizen Charter. Other pamphlets
on GRS & services provided through VMC are drafted with an
aim to information to each & every individuals who are living
in the vicinity of Municipal Corporation |
