The present project tries to sustain the structures of the
previously concluded project and look forward for the possibility
of further strengthening the process of mainstreaming Disaster
concerns in Development Processes in U.P and is an outcome
of Joint collaboration of SSK and Malteser International,
Germany . The recently concluded project, “Mainstreaming
Disaster Risk Management into local Development processes
for Uttar Pradesh” which was implemented with the financial
support of ECHO and Malteser International Germany created
various softwares viz. CBOs, Task Forces and hardwares such
as raised handpumps, wooden and mechanized boats, Solar lanterns,
Early Warning System, etc. During this period liaison and
linkages with different stakeholders were made to mainstream
the project processes and outcomes derived from it. At the
end of the project it was felt that the CBOs and Task Forces
need further handholding and support so as to enable them
to become self sufficient to take up the issue of disaster
management at the local level. Further, the issue of DRM cannot
be addressed without trained and competent manpower and hence,
it becomes pertinent that a pool of manpower be trained and
retained to bring new insights to the Disaster Management
issues in the region and look forward to upscale the learnings
derived from previous projects. The project’s finances are
being shared on equal basis by SSK and Malteser International
Germany.
