Trainings for capacity building of Civil Society Organizations
SSK conducted training on Participatory Training methodology (PTM) on participatory training during 19th – 23th December which was attended by 25 participants from JEEViKA (BRLPS), Bihar. By the end of the training the participants learned and internalized about the Philosophy and Principles of Participatory training, Difference between conventional training Vs participatory training, How to analyze training needs, How to design a participatory training, Principles of various methods of participatory learning, Use of small groups in Participatory training, Facilitating small group processes viz. participation, decision making, communication, leadership, conflict resolution, Role of trainers in participatory training and self and personality development of a trainer. Interactive Training methods as Lecture, Small Group Discussion, Role play, Case studies, Learning games, etc. with organizing practical sessions and analyzing the same through use of video recording were used as methods for imparting the training.
Training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal)
Training on PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) was also conducted by SSK as this is the most widely used data collection tool particularly in micro planning. Having understanding of PRA is important particularly for those who intend to collect data in rural context or with those who are less educated and belong to poor communities etc. The training was conducted during 5th – 8th Dec, 2011 in which 27 participants from BRLPS participated in the training. The focus of the training was given more on understanding the processes apart from the tools and techniques.
SAHBHAGI VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE
SVTC Brochure is developed which contains all the information about SVTC like its objectives, reason behind its formation, vision, mission, its activities, future strategies, current and future courses in pipeline, etc. Brochure is innovatively designed and meant for information dissemination basically.
A volunteer from AJWS is here for coming 9 months. He will be assisting in preparing concept note of SVTC. Also, he will be helping in establishing vocational training centre.
SVTC is in process of initiating its new courses. Many surveys, questionaires and interviews are being conducted as a measure to evolve SVTC as a full fledged seperate entity.

Capacity building training of Panchayat Level DRR committee members
From 21st to 23rd Dec 2011, 3 days Panchayat level DRR committee members training was organized at SSK, Lucknow. The major objective of the training was to develop understanding on leadership and amicably facilitating different group processes as decision making, participation, communication, conflict resolution etc. in the group and the respective communities; refresh and understand the roles and responsibilities of PLDRR committee’s members in larger development context. The major topic of discussion were need of PLDRR committee, effective communication, good leadership, decision making, group, role and responsibility of hamlet development committees, Panchayati Raj System, integrate the disaster plan into development plan etc.
Participation in Sphere in Humanitarian Practices training conducted by RedR India
Two persons from SSK participated in the training on Sphere in Humanitarian Practices organized in Pune during 30th November to 3rd December.
Participation in Housing Vulnerability Assessment framework training
From 8-12th December 2011 five days Housing vulnerability assessment framework training was organized at UNNATI training center, Bhachau, Bhuj. 2 staff of DMRC Unit participated in this training.

The objective of the training was to understand typology of shelter like which typology is the most affective in cyclone and earthquake zone. The major topics of discussion were methodologies of vulnerability assessment, different typology, FEMA-310 &154, NEST, importance of Delphi discussion in developing such framework of assessing housing vulnerability, retrofitting and ideal house design etc.

Meeting with PLDRR committee at Ahata, Nasirganj and Baharampur
Gram Panchayat level meetings have been organized with Panchayat level Disaster Risk Reduction Committee at Ahata, Nasirganj and Baharampur Gram Panchayat in Jarwal blocks of Baharaich district. The main purpose of this meeting was to develop better understanding about importance of this committee in Panchayat, their roles and responsibilities. Mr. Rasool Baksh says that it was a good chance for them to gather in common platform and discuss Panchayat problems in their own hamlets. They felt that it is important to develop their own knowledge and understanding on different provisions, development programs etc. and then they will be strengthened to demand their different entitlement and rights from Gram Panchayt and government departments.

Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant Workers at Source end (Sitapur)
PRI Meeting
Three days orientation program for PRI representatives organized in collaboration with Mahila Samakhya on 27 to 29.12.2011 at Sitapur. The objective behind this activity was to discuss and create understanding on roles and responsibility among PRI members in the development of their respective gram panchayat.
Women Collective (Prawasi Pariwar Samooh)

The monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their respective villages. Jyoti Pravasi Parivar Samooh Benipur and Chand Pravasi Parivar Samooh Asodar opened their saving bank account in State bank of India. Agenda of the meeting was to understanding and sharing of Janata Personal Accident policy. Women of Saraswati Pravasi Parivar Smooh of Maluhi Saraiya actively participated in the re election of Gram Panchayat due to death of previous Gram Pradhan.

 
Youth Mobilization
The last batch of data manager has been completed. After training, youths appeared in interview conducted by V-Mart. Total 5 batches of vocational training organized in the project period in which 125 youth got training on different trades.
Mobile Kiosk
Mobile Kiosk has been organized at extensive area of the project that is urban area of Khairabad on 13 Dec 2011. This is a market place of Khairabad block. In the kiosk the services given by Shramik Sahayta Kendra has been disseminated with the IEC materials. It is a Muslim dominated area and migrants from this area mostly prefer to go Agra, Delhi/NCR, Shimala, Ahmedabad, Mumbai etc. to sale carpet, cloths and also to work in auto mobile repairing industry, cutting and tailoring, driving etc. The migrants who understood and felt the need of ID cards came and apply for the ID cards and others who are locally migrate registered themselves in the format of registration form Citizen leaders of Khairabad Samajik Vikas Prerak Sangh were actively involved in the process of information dissemination and ID and registration.
ID card and registration
Registration of migrants and providing of photo identity card is in ongoing process. Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach. Demand of ID Cards and registration rose from the extensive area. Total 29 registrations have been done among 24 ID cards distributed in this month. During the project period we registered 1779 migrants among 692 ID card are distributed.
Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant Workers at Destination End (Ghaziabad)
Health Camp
Health camp organized at Mahendra Enclave, Shashtri Nagar, and Ghaziabad. 208 Beneficiary took part in this camp. Asst. Labor Commissioner Inaugurate the camp. This camp is organized in collaboration with Asha Deep Foundation, Ghaziabad. Information regarding health education also shared among target group.
ID Card Registration Shivir
Total 4 ID card/registration Shivir organized at different labor chowks. 620 migrants covered during shivir. Support was from CITU. IEC & registration form distributed in the shivir. In the shivir the information regarding services of Shramik Sahayata kendra, importance of ID cards are shared with migrants workers.
Formation of Trade Base Collective
1 Trade Based (Rickshaw Pullers) collective formed at Mahendra enclave. There are 16 members in this group. Main objective behind the collective formulation is to build capacities & make forum to share about their issues.
Mobilization Meeting with Migrants
Organize mobilization meetings at target area Mahendra Enclave & Panchasheel Colony Bhopura Ghaziabad on JPA insurance policy, ID card registration, sanitation issues & their local problems. One person is linked with JPA policy.
Empowering Muslim and SC Communities to have enhanced access to their rights related to opportunity for education and better health services
Baseline Survey
Presently our PACS team is intensively involved in carrying out the baseline survey at field level. Our target for baseline is 2360 households from 59 villages of Varanasi and Ghazipur. Till now we have completed about 2360 households from 59 villages. We are planning to complete recheck this base line survey format in the end second week of January, 12.
Interface with ASHA, AWW, ANM & teachers
We organized ASHA, AWW, ANM & teachers interface one at our Cholapur and other at Saidpur block of Gazipur district. This interface organized on 12 December 11 at Cholapur CHC and 14 Dec,2011. Altogether these meeting were attended by 158 participants. During the meeting following things were discussed –
1. SSK and its work
2. PACS programme
3. Discussion on efforts by ASHA, ANM & AWW
4. Challenges face by workers at field level
5. Mutual experience sharing
6. Need of partnership and coordination with line departments
7. How SSK & Stakeholders could be helpful for each other
Citizen Leader Meeting
Citizen Leader is a very important component of this project because it expands our reach, provide an additional hands at village level and also it is very essential from sustainability point of view.
Keeping this view ,citizen leaders in our PACS project we have identified 79 citizen leaders across 40 gram panchayats. But merely identification is not sufficient, linkage and sensitization is more important. So during the month we organized one citizen leader meeting on 12/12/11 at Saidpur. This meeting were altogether attended by 25 citizen leader. In the meeting we discussed the following things –
1- About SSK and its work in Varanasi
2- PACS project and its components
3- Concept of citizen leader and its importance in any programme
4- Role of a citizen leader in the context of PACS programme
Sensitization of religious leaders and groups
Here each and every person belongs to some or other caste, these castes have their own principles and organized in the form of groups like Momin Conference, Dalit Mahasabha, Jamiat Quresh etc. these caste groups plays very significant role in the decision making process of that caste. Thus if not properly oriented these persons may oppose our programme and create hindrances in achieving our project goal.
Keeping in view the above things we organized 2 interface meetings on 13th and 15th Dec 11.These meetings were attended by 24 religious leaders and representatives of caste groups of muslim and dalit community. We discussed the issues pertaining in the minority and dalit community. We shared our working experience with dalit and minority community and what problems these communities are facing in availing the services. These communities are struggling in availing health and education related services. These religious leaders have very good influence on the community, in this meeting we emphasized that without their help and support, we might not be able to work properly.
To develop booklet on Right of Education Act ,2009
A booklet on Right of Child to Free and Compulsory education act 2009 developed by one of our staff member. This booklet is developed in the light of central and State Govt Rule under RTE ACT.In this booklet there is a brief description of the background of the right to education Act. Under it explained the concept, aim, objective and charactertics right to education act in the context of U.P. Govt rule. This booklet detail explained all 38 provisions of RTE Act, 2009 and guideline for the Standards of schools. It also shared that how to implement the RTE according to U.P. govt rule and role of civil society organizations with various SH’s like CSO, CBO, media, academia, citizen Leaders, School Teachers, School Management Committee, Guardians, Village Education Committee members, elected representatives, Women Elected Representatives.
Muslim and Dalit Girls Child and Women Empowerment Programme
Personality development & career counselling
On 20th Dec, a personality development and career counselling workshop was organized at Cholapur Panchayat. This programme was facilitated by external resource persons (Lecturer of Psychology, Sudhakar Mahila Degree College). Around 41 girls and teachers participated and got benefited from the programme.
Our resource persons dealt all these issues very well and shared the grooming tips with the girls. A very extensive, fruitful and interactive session was taken by our resource person. They discussed that how confidence, patience in case of failure, time management and motivation, plays an important role in career development for any person. Girls asked questions on options available to them after their studies.
Library Committee Meeting
On 21st Dec,11 organized Naya Panchayat wise library committee meeting at Bhwanipur VRC and Srikhandpur VRC . In this meeting about 38 Library committee members and active Citizens participated .Objective of the meeting to strengthen the Village Resource Centre and to know the concerns of community .
In the meeting discussed the following things –
1) How to make interesting the educational games and the given the insight to develop interest of students in the subjects so that they were enjoyed the learning.
2) To discussed on the increase visibility of VRC and utilization of the resources like NEWS papers , Employment NEWS at Village Resource Centre.
3) To discussed on the role and responsibility of the Village education Committee and Library committee Members.
4) To discussed on the some Activities for like organize assembly on a topic, play, story , JAM, Newspaper Reading etc at VRC
Block Level Workshop on “ Right to Education Act, 2009”
A workshop on Right to Education and Child Right was organized on 28 Dec, 2011 at the Middle School of Cholapur in Varanasi. SSK shared a booklet on Right of Child to Free and Compulsory education at 2009 with U.P. State.Rule of civil society developed by Mr. Ashok Kumar. A number stakeholder from Schools, SMC, Madarsa Teachers and active citizen, Elected Represenatatives were participated in the consultation and shared their work experience on RTE. In this programme around 110 participants participated. The consultation was chaired by Mr. Ram Kumar (Middle School Principal), Mr. Rahul Chatruvedi ( Co- coordinator SSA) . Objective of the workshop:-
1) To share the provision of Right to education on the light of RTE ACT 2009
2) To develop an understanding of participants on current situation of the School Management Committee and prepare strategy on the light of right to education.
3) To initiate the process of rational communication between different stakeholders at local level for sustainable solutions of the problems.
Computer coaching classes
Coaching centers was visited of Cholapur and Dhaurahara Nyay panchayats. During the visit preparation of half yearly exams basic methodology of study, regularity of students in the coaching and computer classes, was checked and further shared the same issues. In was noted that, the girls are maintaining their regularity in the coaching centers and as well as computer centers. In the computer centers the progress of the student is satisfactory and good in some centers. In the computer the girls have learnt fundamental of the computer and presently they are practicing for Windows & Paint.
