Trainings for capacity building of Civil Society Organizations
Training on Self help Group- SSK conducted 4 batches of training on Self Help Group Management in the month of August in which total 121 participants from World Vision India, Unnao have been trained as how to manage the functions of SHG to achieve the objectives of SHG formation. Participants learned the societal context and SHG as vehicle for bringing change in the social, economical and leadership’ attribute change in the poors. Besides the core functions, necessary documentation, the group processes as leadership, communication, participation, decision making and conflict resolution were discussed at length. Having less opportunity to get exposed in such training environment the participation especially of women was seen to be at great extent.
Training of Trainers on Participatory Training- SSK also conducted TOT on participatory training during 26th July- 2nd August which was attended by 26 in each batch from JEEViKA (BRLPS), Bihar.
By the end of the training the participants learned and internalized about the concept of participatory training, analyzing training needs, understanding appropriate participatory training methods, tools, techniques, understanding group processes, improving self and personality of a trainer, different roles a trainer has to play during participatory training, designing effective participatory training and its various steps, learning facilitate participatory training sessions and understanding Trainer Team.
SAHBHAGI VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE (SVTC)
Successful Completion of 3rd Batch of Computer fundamentals training
Sahbhagi has independently developed a vocational training centre, named as Sahbhagi Vocational Training Centre. The main idea behind this is building skills of marginalized community of nearby villages to enhance their employablity. 3rd batch of Computer Fundamental Training running under Sahbhagi Vocational Training Centre successfully completed this month. There were 12 participants and most of them were from Dalit, Backward class & other marginalized communities. Girls of the nearby villages participated in the training. Duration of the training was one month under which, we tried to cover computer basic fundamentals.
Course content was designed in such a way, that participants at the end of the training will be able to do documentation work in English as well as in Hindi, accessing internet, emailing, etc. Apart from the course content, we also tried to sensitize girls regarding Women Empowerment and develop awarenesss about Gender related issues. We tried to develop their leadership skills, personality development, etc.
4th Batch of SVTC started
SVTC 4th Batch of Computer fundamental training started from 12th Sep, 2011. From our prior experiences, we felt the need of increasing the duration of the course and increased duration from one month to 45 days. 12 Girls are admitted in this batch also. We provide 1 seperate computer to each girl.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESOURCE CENTRE
500 meters Pitch road washed away by River Ghaghara
On 25th August 2011, approx. 500 meter connecting link road from Dhapali purwa of Baharampur Gram panchayat washed away by the river Ghaghara. Thousand of people became cut off from other parts of the district. People are afraid as soil erosion becomes much faster while receding away the flood water. This time only two hamlets Dhapali Purwa and Khasepur were left untouched in the Baharampur Panchayat. District administration has virtually no arrangement of rehabilitation and compensation.
Volunteer’s capacity building training on CBDRR (Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction)
A training on CBDRR was organized at SSK, Lucknow during 1st - 4th August 2011 for the newly recruited volunteers. 13 volunteers from 11 Gram Panchayats participated in this training program. The basic objectives of the program was to develop understanding of newly recruited volunteers on CBDRRA, their roles and responsibilities under the project, understanding basic communication skill particularly with the community. These volunteers are supposed to assist in SSK’s intervention on CBDRR in two Panchyats i.e Barabanki and Bahraich district of U.P.
Search and Rescue- in full swing
On 17th August 2011 approximate 6 lakh cusecs water has been realized from Banbasa and Girajipuri barrages causing all the 380 hamlets of 48 Gram Panchayts of three blocks of Bahraich district being flooded by water. Search and rescue task force members of each and every gram panchayats started their operation in their respective Panchyats in full swing using wooden boats and mechanized boats provided under previous projects. Over thousand of peoples were disconnected from the block head office.
8 mechanized boats and 57 wooden boats were operating for search and rescue in 11 flood affective Gram Panchayats. Communities were evacuated at the right time placing them on the Adampur Rewila embankment, Ganeshpur embankment and other raised safe places. Task force members are helping flood victims have safe drinking water and also motivating them to use water for drinking purpose only from raised hand pumps or other safe sources.
Early warning system now helping the community
Additional District Magistrate, Bahraich Mr. Sukh Lal Bahrti gave order to Apada Babu of DDMC to send regular massage to different stake holders regarding water release from barrages. This important massage was regularly received by 140 peoples. Some of the massage was even recorded and disseminated by ADM. SSK has been regularly providing support to district administration and DDMC in the operation of early warning system. Broadcast of these flood related massages have been proved to be very much helpful for the communities this year. Communities were always alert and were asking if there is any flood massage, and they quickly responded on that.
GOVERNANCE RESOURCE CENTRE
Training of trainers for Master trainers on Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI)
SSK is identified as a State training agency by Department of Panchayati Raj, Uttar Pradesh to conduct trainings for 216 Master trainers from 72 districts of State. Training programme is being organized in SSK training Centre, Lucknow in 7 batches. Training will mainly aim at developing thematic understanding of the participants on PRI as well as inculcating training skills.

SSK has initiated a new field initiative in Varanasi & Ghasipur districts of uttar Pradesh with support from PACS (Christian Aid & DFID). The project aims at empowerment of Muslims at SC community to have enhanced access to their rights related to equal opportunities for education and better health services.
Promoting Education for Minority Women and girls through Community led Change Agents
Adolescent Girls Have Exhibited their Handmade items in “Information Fair”
A day long fair named as “Information fair” was organized on 25th August, 2011 at Urban Haat of Sanskritik Sankul Bhanvan, Varanasi. In this fair rural adolescent girls have show case their items in the presence of various stakeholders. The objective of the event was, to provide an environment to the rural adolescent girls’ for market linkage and enhancing their employment opportunities through interfacing with related stakeholders. The special guest in this event was Mr. K.P verma (Assist Director of Handloom Dept), R.K. Mishra (Assist Director of Handicraft department), Tapan Sharma (Assist Director of Weaver service center) presented their view and shares about the government schemes and other welfare schemes related to the sector. About 300 participants have participated in the programme.
Organizing Leadership Training for Adolescent
In the second phase training on “Leadership”, for adolescent is going on. In this phase about 200 girls is targeted in 10 batches of 20 girls. From the 10 panchayats 10 batches will be cover. The objective of the training is to form a cadre of skilled and confident girls at villages and formulate strong and confident groups of the adolescent by enhancing their leadership skill. In this month this training was organized for three batches, in different four gram panchayats, Chhittampur, Bhavanipur, and Raunkhurd of Cholapur Block. About 20-25 girls have been participated from each gram panchayats.
 
Starting of III batch of Vocational Training at Vanita Polytechnic
Vocational training is a means to strengthen the adolescent girls. An initiative taken, under the project and it part of the project we have give 60 adolescnt girls As part of this initiative the batch second of 22 girls is completed at Vanita Polytechnic. And third and last batch of 21 girls is started from 1st August, 2011. These girls are selected from five gram panchayts such as Rampur, Chandravati, Chhittampur, Dhaurahar and Hariharpur. They are receiving training in five different trades as, Zardoji, Sewing and cutting, Computer, and Beautician. All trades have scope in the rural area and as well as demand of present market. The arrangement of travel from their respective areas is made by organization and raw materials for the courses also providing by organization.
Inauguration of Village Information and Resource Centers
With perspective of knowledge and information based approach among the Muslim and dalit community Village information and resource center is established. Under this activity focus group discussion has been carried out. In this month, 5 other VIRC has been established at five gram panchayats (Chandravati, Chhittampur, Gadsara, Raunakhurd and Tisaura). The inauguration ceremony was organized in all new VIRC. The Inauguration was done by Pradhan. In this occasion Pradhan, Panchayat Members, Coominty people, students etc present te VIRC and get membership of the VIRC.

Exposure Visit of the adolescent Girls
An exposure visit for Vidya Gyan Scholarship associated of 58 girls was organized in this month. The visit was planned in two cities 21 girls’ visit at Allahabad and 35 girls have visited in Lucknow. The Objective of the visit was, to improve the Knowledge status of girls through generating awareness by the exposure. The girls have visited in Historical places, of Lucknow, Bool Bhulaiya, and regional science city, planetarium etc, whereas in the Allahabad in the Allahabad girls have visited in planetarium, museum, Anad bhavan, Minto Park etc. This visit improved the Knowledge status of girls through generating awareness by the exposure. This visit help to the girls for develop overall concept of science and interface with Historical places and leader life and facilitated their overall personality development process as conscious citizen
Guardian Meeting
On 27 August, 2011 meeting with the guardians of vidhya Gyan associated girls was organized at Dhuarahara gram panchayat of Cholapur Block. In this meeting progress of the students was shared with their guardian. Importance of regularity in the coaching center as well as school also shared. In this meeting Scholarship programme of Maulana Azad education founadation and Ministry of Minority welfare schemes were discussed. The guardian discussed the basic information and enclosure of the scholarship forms.

Vatsalya: Adolescent Health Training Programme
Vatsalya with support of Plan India and P&G has initiated a program for adolescent school going girls in the age group of 9-16 years named Adolescent health.
Objective:- The resource agency has to organize orientation program on menstruation and Adolescent Health, Personal hygiene for adolescent girls in Government, semi Government and provide school, as well as giving away free sample of a pack of sanitary pad, FAQ booklet provide. SSK is supporting to this programme in Varanasi district. The training programme has started from 12th August, 2011 and this month 12 school has been covered 2159 adolescent girls is covered.

Reducing Vulnerability of Migrant workers Source end
Block Level Workshop
Arrange block level workshop with the project stakeholders.BDO, Advisory member, CLs federation and other members took part. Discuss about labor rights and RSBY scheme.Discuss about various ongoing govt. scheme. (Like Widow pension, old age pension, MAMY etc).The members of 9 PPS shared their experience about their involvement in the project.Youths of Kamyabi club member are took part in the program and shared their experience.
Legal Counseling
In this month the legal counseling session has been organized for the migrants of Akbarpur Khurd, Jainapur-Paragpur, and Rahimabad. In this month we organized legal counseling at panchayat level in panchayat building of relevant panchayat. We covered
around 300 migrants. In this session we invited resource person (Advocate) from civil court. He counsels all the migrants about their rights. Some of the important points raised were:
Migrant worker should always know about the nature of work and decide their wages before starting work.
Migrant worker should always do a contract if they are going to work in a group with contractor for a minimum of 1 month. They should inform about their place of living to their family.
Migrant worker should always keep contact number and address of shramik Sahayata Kendra, so that they can inform in any difficulties.
Women Collective (Prawasi Pariwar Samuha)
The monthly meeting of already formed groups has been organized in their respective villages. In this month, all data collectively collected related to the beneficiaries of social security scheme. Future strategy is formulated on the basis of this data. Women of these collective are reaching to Panchayat level and block level administration to raise their voice for rights and entitlements. It has been observed that theses group started to move towards right based approach and started to access their entitlements. It has been found that they started to access the benefit of govt. schemes, and raised voice for their rights.
Youth Mobilization
The former batch of vocational training for migrant youths on Tally and data Entry is running well. All student took part in the interview organized by financial inclusion of Allahabad bank. A life skill session was organized for this batch at DRC Sitapur.
ID card and registration
Registration of migrants and providing photo identity card is in ongoing process. Registration has been done through intensive and extensive approach. Demand of ID Cards and registration is raised in the extensive areas.
PRI training
Organized two days PRI training in collaboration with Mahila Samakhya. Issues like function and role of PRI members were discussed and further role of PRI and their members in reducing vulnerability of migrants workers were also discussed.
Sanitation Campaign
As part of sanitation campaign, street play was organized at Panwariya and Laliyapur ward on 9 Aug, 2011 and at Bajdari muhalla and kamalsarai on 10.8.2011. Through street play we covered the issue basically related to health and hygiene. We distributed IEC material on causes of disease and prevention from disease. Campaign mainly targetet migrants in Urban settlements of Khairabad.

Resource Group Meeting
At Destination centre of MRC, resource group meeting was organized.
Resource group members who represent various sectors like trade union media, academia, lawyers, collectively decided to take up strong advocacy initiative for securing rights of migrants. Specifically linkage of migrants with UID.
Campaign
Organized migrants rights awareness campaign from 3-5 August, 2011 in which organized street play on the issue of migrants right and legal counselling at Nandgram, Nasirpur Phatak, and Ramteram Road. Total approximately 2500 migrant labours were covered.
